Final Round of Formula Drift

The final round of Formula Drift, held in sunny Irwindale, CA, turned out to be quite a success for the Mishimoto crew, to say the least.

On day one before the gates opened, the Mishimoto team met up with the winners of the highly anticipated Meet Chris Forsberg Formula D Contest. Vanessa Lam and her guest, Steve Jun, both received an all expense paid trip to the event. They got to go behind the scenes, meet all the Mishimoto-sponsored drivers, take photos and have a personal meet and greet session with Chris Forsberg. They were both overwhelmed with excitement as they were able to meet all of their favorite drivers.

Friday’s qualifying rounds went great for the Mishimoto sponsored drivers. Kyle Mohan had the best run of the day, while Justin Pawlak took the lead position.

The extremely hot weather did not deter the 10,000 fans from showing up to the sold out main event on Saturday. The stands were packed as the battle for top 16 began. Pawlak, Maeng, Mohan, Pfeiffer and Forsberg all made the top 16, with Kyle Mohan advancing on to the great 8.

As the night progressed, drivers were slowly narrowed to the final four composed of Ryan Tuerck, Tyler McQuarrie, Matt Powers and Tanner Foust. The final standings of the event shaped out with Tuerck taking first, McQuarrie took second and Tanner Foust took third place.

After the awards and flowing champagne were presented to the top 3 drivers that day, it was time for the greatest achievement award to be handed out. Chris Forsberg was officially announced the 2009 Formula Drift Champion.
