Honda’s engineering team gave the new CTR a capable cooling system from the factory, but like most OEM setups, it’s built with mass production and cost-efficiency in mind. For owners who demand more—whether that’s consistent lap times at the track or extra margin on a hot summer drive—our engineers set out to create a comprehensive cooling solution. The result is a trio of upgrades built to work in harmony: our Performance Aluminum Radiator, Silicone Radiator Hose Kit, and Aluminum Expansion Tank.
We started with the heart of the system—the radiator. Designed from the ground up for maximum efficiency, our all-aluminum radiator uses a robust 40mm thick, strutted tube single-row core. Compared to the stock unit, our radiator delivers a 49% increase in core volume, a 38% gain in external fin area, and a 31% boost in internal tube area.
Precision TIG-welded end tanks and a sturdy core designed to resist chassis flex ensure this radiator can handle the demands of aggressive driving without fatigue or failure. The included magnetic drain plug offers an extra layer of protection by capturing metal shavings and debris that could otherwise circulate through the system. And because we value your time as much as we value performance, the radiator is a true direct-fit upgrade. There’s no need to remove the bumper or modify the fan shroud. It even includes foam seals for optimal airflow management between the radiator and fans.
But a radiator is only as good as its supporting components, and rubber hoses simply don’t cut it when things heat up. That’s why we developed a set of high-performance silicone radiator hoses to pair with our upgraded radiator. Constructed from four layers of durable silicone and reinforced with heat-resistant fibers, these hoses are built to withstand temperatures up to 330°F. Unlike stock rubber hoses, they won’t dry out, crack, or balloon under pressure. The result is a tighter, more reliable connection throughout the cooling system, backed by the same Mishimoto Lifetime Warranty that covers the rest of this kit.
Each hose kit includes both upper and lower radiator hoses, coolant overflow lines, and high-quality worm gear clamps for a secure seal. And because we know Type R owners appreciate attention to detail, we offer the hoses in black, blue, or red to match your style.
Finally, we turned our attention to the coolant expansion tank. The factory tank might be functional, but it’s also beige, plastic, and prone to fatigue under heat cycling. That’s not a combination that belongs in the FL5’s otherwise purposeful engine bay. Our replacement? A 100% aluminum, fully welded tank that not only looks the part but performs it as well.
Internally baffled to prevent air entry during hard cornering and aggressive acceleration, the Mishimoto expansion tank ensures coolant stays near the overflow port to prevent air entry into the system. A sight glass built into the side provides instant visual confirmation of coolant levels, and we include a Mishimoto filler cap while retaining compatibility with the stock cap for flexibility. The tank is available in micro-wrinkle black or Rallye Red, making it a perfect visual complement to the factory valve cover and other engine bay components.
