It certainly has been no picnic to get to this point. However, working on this unique, factory-turbocharged application from Chevy has brought to light the importance of the type of testing we do for our intake projects. We've gone through many configurations, spent countless design hours and logged hundreds of miles of road testing. This isn't overkill at Mishimoto, we deem it a necessity.

The amount of time that passed by was no mistake. We spared no R&D expense with this kit. Being as thorough as possible with every aspect of how it looked and the type of performance it delivered was a priority. In the last update, we went through why we encountered a few hiccups during testing, but we took our time in working through

ReSpiration Focal Point - SPECIAL ENTRY!

Boy do we have treat for you.

Our RS made it to our R&D facility early in the summer last year. We did our research on the car. We knew what color RS we were going to get, what parts we were going to make and just how much fun we were going to have with this little blue hatch. Every now and again, a wild idea is brought to the table that challenges the very fabric of our normal business operations - you are about to witness what happens when Mishimoto decides to take a walk on the wild side.

If you have been following our updates, you all know and love the intake we have made for this 2016 RS, but we have one more trick up our sleeves. Some of you have been lucky enough to have already seen it. Some of you may have even put yourself down for a presale order. Without further ado, say hello to our first ever, limited color option for our 2016 Ford Focus RS Performance Intake kit - Wrinkle  Nitrous Blue.

  3. "The TurboChevy" Intake R&D, Part 3: Back To The Drawing Board

"The TurboChevy" Intake R&D, Part 3: Back To The Drawing Board

Research and Development (R&D) - Work directed toward the innovation, introduction, and improvement of products and processes.

The research and development process can get tricky. Sometimes, at a moment when you think you have a perfectly working product, that's ready for the masses; something just goes awry. This isn't necessarily a bad thing. We welcome situations like this, especially during this late in the development stage, because we're able to catch unexpected issues early. It's not like we want you to deal with them. That's why we do so much testing. As the definition states, this work needs to be directed, in part, toward the improvement of products and processes. We take this attitude with each and every design that leaves our R&D facility for production. As an example, we implemented some modifications to the last design you guys saw for this Camaro 2.0T intake project, even though those changes were minor. I still want to walk you

Here it is, the final hoorah. The production sample of our intake kit for the 2016 Ford Focus RS is here at last. In the last update, we took you guys through what this intake sounds like with the help of some dyno runs; it sounds awesome and it made 11hp and 15ft-lbs of torque! I'm happy that you guys have stuck with me through the long development process, but there is a light at the end of this R&D tunnel. I know you guys want to see what the finished product looks like, so let's check it out.

As 2016 approaches its end, I can't help but reminisce. It's been a wild ride and a lot has changed. We have a new president-elect, the Olympics took place in Brazil, Kim Kardashian was robbed at gunpoint, Ryan Lochte lied about being robbed at gunpoint, and Leo finally got his Oscar. You know what hasn't changed? Our resolve to make awesome parts for our automotive community.

It was May 3 when we announced that we were going to make an intake for the 2015 Ford Mustang GT. I know it feels like the updates for this project have been trickling in at a slow pace, but quality takes time. In our last update, we went through the rigorous testing our prototype endured, including pressure drop, dyno and road testing, so we could be confident in our results. The production sample has finally arrived at our R&D facility and it looks great. Our lead engineer has installed a finished production kit on our GT,

  6. The Mustang GT Intake R&D, Part 3: Data Crunch

The Mustang GT Intake R&D, Part 3: Data Crunch

It may seem that we have been dormant on this project, but trust me, the activity around this 2015 Mustang GT intake could not be more alive! In this update, I'll outline the results of the extensive R&D we put this prototype through. Our Mustang's V8 Coyote motor has spent a lot of time running with this our prototype intake, and we wanted to document the many steps along the way of this research. Our engineers believe they have tweaked this product to its full potential. So let's dive right in!

    The GT looks ready
    The GT looks ready!

We wanted to look at several things in this car. We know a few intake kits out there require tunes to run with this S550. One of our priorities was to ensure that this this intake would safely run on a stock tune

ReSpiration Focal Point - Performance Intake R&D, Part 4: Let's Hear It!

This project has been strenuous, but "thorough" is our Engineering Department's proverbial middle name, so let's hear it for them (cue applause). The last update, which was relatively recent, consisted of a pretty big pile of data. Though necessary, it was a lot to soak in. Now that that's out of the way, we can get to the fun part - what this intake actually sounds like.

Sneaking a peek of our prototype intake for the RS!

We really have to give it to our engineers. The reason they were so careful with this project was primarily because the software reported slightly increased

  8. "The TurboChevy" - Intake R&D, Part 2: Weighing Our Options

"The TurboChevy" - Intake R&D, Part 2: Weighing Our Options

The team developing this intake for our 2016 Chevy Camaro 2.0T or what I call "The TurboChevy" has been buzzing with activity. In the last post, we discussed the stock intake and analyzed each component to get a good understanding of its design. There were several ways our engineers could have created an intake for this system, and we tried and tested a few of those designs, which yielded some interesting results.

If you followed our 2016+ Camaro SS intake development, you'd see that we went through multiple designs to achieve the desirable.  In some ways this project is similar; let's walk through what we found!

  9. ReSpiration Focal Point - Performance Intake R&D, Part 3: Data Time!

ReSpiration Focal Point - Performance Intake R&D, Part 3: Data Time!

Our product development for this 2016 Ford Focus RS has been getting a good amount of attention. Even a fellow Focus RS owner and writer, Kelly G over at "ArtofGears" has taken notice with this awesome piece he penned a couple weeks ago. But I digress. How about we stick to the project at hand?

The engineers, who pretty much call our brand new R&D facility their second home, have been busy working on both current projects and projects you guys don't even know about just yet. Of course, what we are going to shine a light on in today's piece is the performance intake development that has garnered quite the following. Why keep you guys clamoring for more information? Well, I wanted to be sure that you could really sink your teeth into the next update. Good things come to those who wait!

First, we dove head first into testing,

  10. ReSpiration Focal Point - Intake R&D, Part 2: Something's Rustling Up

ReSpiration Focal Point - Intake R&D, Part 2: Something's Rustling Up

The RS has gotten a lot of attention the past few weeks, especially with the ball in our court. Need I remind you of our awesome stock dyno clip?

But somethin's-a-brewin with one of our most recent projects, the performance intake we are developing for this hot hatch. We mentioned earlier that the development of this intake kit is not completely uncharted territory, considering that we made one for the 2013-2014 Focus ST. However, as we dived further into this project, we uncovered the true complexities of this design compared with our ST intake kit.
