Ford 7.3 Power Stroke Aluminum Expansion Tank R&D Part 1 – Stock Review and Design Plans

When it comes to the icon of reliability, durability, and longevity in the automotive world, all eyes are on the diesel powertrain. The recognizable chugging sound of a diesel engine has become synonymous with the thought of tractor trailers, incredible fuel economy, and reaching 300,000 miles with ease. “Built Ford Tough” reigns true for all the general features of the diesel platform, the Powerstroke. Giving our loaner F-250 a look over, it’s easy to see why. Everything incorporated into the design was done so with the intent to develop an invincible machine. Everything except for the expansion tank, it seems. [caption … Continue Reading ››

Tank Love – Coolant Expansion Tank R&D, Part 1: Design Plans

Anyone with a car older than 15 years or so likely has a coolant expansion tank with the structural integrity of wet toilet paper. These tanks rarely get aesthetic love in the factory vehicle design. They are usually plastic, look weird and can start cracking given enough time. After 20 years, the expansion tank in my 1995 Nissan 240SX project car will literally begin crumbling around your finger if any sort of pressure is applied. We don’t want that happening to your RS/ST a decade or two from now, so we decided to design a sweet looking expansion tank that … Continue Reading ››

Eliminating the Eyesore – Expansion Tank R&D, Part 4: Final Form

They say that good things come to those who wait, and we’d certainly say that’s the case with the Mishimoto 2016+ Camaro expansion tank. Note that I did not specify “SS” here. This tank also fits on the 2.0T, but we haven’t gotten a change to test it out on a V6 model yet, though it should fit. If any V6 owners are local to the Philadelphia area and want to come on by for a test fit so that we can be 100% sure, please reach out!

We’ve tested the tank on both of our Camaros, … Continue Reading ››

Cool to the Core – Radiator R&D, Part 1: Stock Review and Renderings

One of my favorite things about working for Mishimoto is the sheer breadth of our many different projects. We're working on much more than only Chevy parts! Our garage always contains some interesting combination of trucks, hot hatches, muscle cars, and more. With all that fun stuff just meters away (separated from me by nothing more than a thin layer of clear glass, no less), it’s a small wonder I get anything done around here.

All this considered, I still occasionally receive some form of the following response after telling people … Continue Reading ››

Overflowing with Style – Overflow Tank, Part 2: Pre-Sale

Hello everyone, and welcome to the long-awaited second chapter in the saga of the Mishimoto BRZ expansion tank! I know it’s been a little while since our first update, and you all have waited patiently, so I am excited to share some good news about these BRZ parts (or FR-S parts).

Mishimoto's 2013+ BRZ Expansion Tank Pre-sale

You might remember from my last update that the stock, ghostly-looking overflow tank that haunts the engine bay of your BRZ, GT86, or FR-S really spooked us. So much so, in fact, that we felt obligated to … Continue Reading ››
