Our Mishimoto chefs have been very busy in our R&D kitchen, cooking up some wonderful 2016 Camaro exhaust prototypes with our 3D-modeling CAD software. Using nothing short of the finest ingredients, they have created a suite of 2016 Camaro SS exhaust options that are so delicious, Guy Fieri's mouth would surely be watering at the sight - though I'm sure he'd be even more tantalized if these were compatible with the first-gen Camaro!

We have decided to release five different 2016 Camaro exhaust systems, and we think they should satisfy just about anyone with an SS and a hunger for some killer sound. As we determined the crimped section upstream of the axle-back does not have an impact on power output, but it does make the system sound more refined. Greetings, Camaro enthusiasts, and welcome to Part 2 of the Mishimoto R&D blog series on our 2016 Camaro SS Exhaust! As you may remember, we took a gander last time at the OEM exhaust, paying special attention to some of the really cool design features that make this system unique. One feature has emerged as a real point of contention and has become so hotly debated, that I wouldn't be surprised to hear about it on the next CNN Presidential Town Hall. I am referring, of course, to the crimped section of piping near the rear axles.

For those of you not in the know, a variety of theories exist about the function of this design, and there is some uncertainty as to what its implications on power output might be.

Well, we are here to put an end to the confusion. In the name of science, we have dyno tested the car with the ONLY changed variable being the presence or absence of the crimped section. Before I get to the results, let's get into how we isolated this piece of the 2016 Camaro SS exhaust

It has been quite a while since our last update, and we are glad to be wrapping up this project! One of the reasons for this delay is that, based on your feedback, we have decided to add a few more options for this exhaust system.

You might remember from a previous post, that our engineers enjoyed the louder sound of our non-resonated exhaust after having listened to both the resonated and non-resonated versions. Since there were no improvements in horsepower with either option, we based our decision to create the exhaust on sound only.

To refresh your memory, here are some photos of the resonated and non-resonated sections of the exhaust. Aside from this small difference, the rest of the exhaust layout is the same.

Last time we took a look at what went into creating the jig for our Mustang H-pipe. This same process will be applied to create a jig for our Mustang X-pipe designs. We have plans laid out to create three different X-pipe designs to test on the Mustang GT.

It is interesting that the same jig will be used for each of the three X-pipe designs. This is possible because the section that is changing between each X-pipe is the actual X in the center of the pipe. The jig's job is to ensure that the piping coming both into and out of the X itself will fit with the rest of the Mustang GT exhaust system. The center design is unrestricted by the jig, and therefore we have some room to play with the design.

We plan to create different degree bends for the X part of the pipe: a 60° X-pipe, a 45° X-pipe, and a 20° X-pipe. We will test these three designs to see if there is any benefit to using these various X designs on our GT.

As much as we like to keep things cool here at Mishimoto, we couldn't keep ourselves away from the exhaust system once we got our hands on the hot new 2016 Camaro SS. This is a very impressive car, but we have a few ideas on how to make it even better.

Now let's give credit where credit is due; GM did pretty well on this one, and even the stock 2016 Camaro exhaust took our breath away. It sounds absolutely sublime, and I'm sure you will all agree after giving it a listen.

But once our engineers picked their jaws up off the floor and stopped doing burnouts in the parking lot, they told us that we weren't the only ones having breathing problems after hearing that monstrous 2016 Camaro exhaust. In fact, they told us that the exhaust might make it hard for that glorious LT1 to breathe too! Fortunately, this ailing patient came to the right doctors; our team reckons they can make some improvements to help this Camaro breathe better and even squeeze out some more power while they're at it.
