An engine is a lot like a human body. It's full of moving parts and fluid. It breathes in and out, just like you or I. Except instead of lungs and a heart, it has cylinders and a crankshaft. Its blood may have an octane rating, but like your body, an engine needs fresh air to survive. Blow-by finds its way into your engine's lungs, compromising its airways, and choking the power out of it. Imagine having a chest cold, but instead your lungs are full of oil and unburned fuel; I bet you wouldn't run well either.

  2. Cooling the American Dream - Radiator R&D, Part 2: Performance Testing

Cooling the American Dream - Radiator R&D, Part 2: Performance Testing

If you grew up working on cars, you're probably familiar with the clamor that a wrench makes when it hits metal. This sound was once the soundtrack of America, the marching drum of industry. But then came the modern age and that clamor was replaced with the dull thud of plastic. Now, everything is made from plastic. Your computer, your table, your car: plastic. Your Camaro radiator is partly made of plastic, but Mishimoto is changing that.

At Mishimoto, we see ourselves as modern alchemists, turning plastic into gold"well, aluminum really. It's no secret that aluminum is far more durable than most plastics. Eventually, that plastic radiator end tank is going to crack or break, leaving you and your Camaro steaming at the side of the road. It's hard to predict when this will happen, but it is easy to prevent.

A COLD HEART FOR THE CAMARO - OIL COOLER R&D - PART 2: Prototype & Testing

The pre-sale for this oil cooler kit is now live! You can purchase the 2010-15 Camaro SS Oil Cooler Kit here!

There's nothing quite like the feeling of powering down the long straight, your right foot trying to turn the throttle into dust, hurtling towards the first turn. As the engine RPM climbs into the red you tell yourself not to lift, keep that foot down until the last second. You've put your heart and soul into your Camaro's engine, and you've placed your trust in your Mishimoto oil cooler. All you need to do now is keep your foot down and let them both do their jobs.

Combating high oil temperature is something that almost every 5th Gen Camaro SS owner has experienced. The factory liquid-to-liquid oil cooler that we examined in the last post

Eliminating the Eyesore - Expansion Tank R&D, Part 4: Final Form

They say that good things come to those who wait, and we'd certainly say that's the case with the Mishimoto 2016+ Camaro expansion tank. Note that I did not specify "SS" here. This tank also fits on the 2.0T, but we haven't gotten a change to test it out on a V6 model yet, though it should fit. If any V6 owners are local to the Philadelphia area and want to come on by for a test fit so that we can be 100% sure, please reach out!

We've tested the tank on both of our Camaros, and we've gone through several stages of refinement, ultimately ending up with quite the fine-looking aluminum piece. Oh, and did I mention it's already on Pre-Sale?

Cooling the American Dream - Radiator R&D, Part 1: Design and Test-fit

    A Car for Drivers

There are 7 billion people on Earth driving over 1 billion cars. Some of those cars were made for people who spend their Saturdays shopping for houseplants and whose idea of speed is doing 45mph in a 40mph zone. Some of them were made for the passengers of the world, whose perfect car is a silent butler. Then there are the cars made for the select few. For those with fuel in their veins and tire smoke in their lungs. For drivers.

The fifth-generation Chevy Camaro SS is certainly a driver's car. With a 6.2L V8 capable of 426 horsepower, independent rear suspension, and launch control, the Camaro is not your average run-around. It's raced in touring car championships, NASCAR, and even Formula Drift (piloted by none other than Mishimoto-sponsored driver Ryan Tuerck). The SS's bigger brother, the ZL1, clocked a 7-minute, 41-second Nürburgring lap, keeping pace with Lamborghini, Porsche, and Mercedes. But

  6. Sounds from an American Muscle Car - Exhaust R&D, Part 4: Sound Check

Sounds from an American Muscle Car - Exhaust R&D, Part 4: Sound Check

    A Gaggle of Pipes,

Hello everyone! You may remember from our previous 2016 Camaro SS Exhaust post that we have decided to move forward with five different systems for this car. It is my pleasure to let you know that all our Camaro exhaust prototypes have been completed. We've been busy testing and re-testing for fitment, sound, durability, and performance - and fun, of course. Our on-road testing process usually begins a little something like this:

Rob, the project manager: "Hey Gardiner, I need you to take the SS home tonight to put some miles on the pro system."

    Me: "Ugh, if you insist."

They really have to twist my arm.

I Am the Aux Rad - Auxiliary Radiator R&D, Part 4: Decision, Test, and Pre-Sale

Welcome to a very special update on one of the more unique Camaro parts we've got in our R&D arsenal: The Mishimoto 2016+ Camaro Auxiliary Radiators. If you're just joining us now, learn all about the stock auxiliary Camaro radiator in our first post.

Last time, we discussed two possible design options for these heat exchangers, but now I've got the word on our final decision. I'll explain in detail the efforts and testing methodology we employed to come to our decision, but first, let me make an announcement:

2016+ Camaro Auxiliary Radiator Pre-Sale has begun!

Also, the Mishimoto 2016 Camaro Auxiliary Radiators have been confirmed to fit the 2.0T with the HD cooling and brake package!

The Tale of the Ugly Hose - Silicone Hose Kit

Mishimoto 2016+ Camaro SS Coolant Hose Kit

Greetings, Camaro owners, and welcome to the first and only blog post about the new 2016+ Camaro SS silicone radiator hose kit. To get you all in the mood, let me grease you up with a little ditty about something to which we ALL can relate. (maybe).

    pablo-1

The above account, though fictional, is an example of something very real that could happen to anyone. This charming old tale does an excellent job at touching on two issues that stock coolant hoses bestow upon an otherwise wonderful vehicle.

Issue #1: The Ugly (but we can fix that)

When you open the hood of your SS, you

Eliminating the Eyesore - Expansion Tank R&D, Part 3: Test Fit

Welcome, Camaro enthusiasts, to the latest progress report on our 2016 Camaro coolant expansion tank. I know that it's been a little while since our last update, but as Santa Claus my mother always told 8-year-old me when I'd ask for a Power Wheels car: Good things come to those who wait. I'm still patiently waiting, but fortunately you don't have to.

    That coulda been ME!
    That coulda been ME!

We've been very hard at work on these 2016 Camaro parts and numerous other projects, some of which have presented exceptionally unique, unexpected

Baby You're an Aux Rad - Auxiliary Radiator R&D, Part 3: 3D Print Test Fit

2016+ Camaro Auxiliary Radiator Discounted Pre-Sale has begun!

When we left off last time, I teased you a bit with a couple of 3D models representing the possible directions in which we might be taking the Mishimoto Camaro SS auxiliary radiator design. We have continued the discussion among our engineering team and have not yet come to a conclusion on how to proceed. We have, however, taken action to explore both options in greater depth.

We felt that fitment and compatibility with stock radiator ducting is definitely one of this project's more important considerations, so we wanted to get an idea of how the two designs compared in this regard; the more information we can gather, the better! We hit up our trusty 3D printer to give us something to throw behind the menacing front end of our SS for a test fit.
