    Mishimoto's 2016 Camaro SS Oil Cooler Pre-Sale

As the summer drags unremittingly further into the humid, heavy annals of August, it continues to push our air conditioners to the very cusp of their abilities, and I can't help but to dream of cooler weather. I will certainly miss the summer, but a break from the hellish bake of these past few weeks will certainly be welcomed.

It's pretty safe to say there's not a whole lot that your Camaro likes about this weather. The joy of being on the road notwithstanding, this persistent heat does not otherwise make your car very happy. However, we want your Camaro to enjoy what's left of summer; that's why we have recently released a Mishimoto 2016 Camaro

    Mishimoto's 2016 Camaro SS Oil Cooler Pre-Sale

As I sit here, isolated from the blistering humidity of a mid-Atlantic summer within the walls of our New Castle, DE office, I can't help but to appreciate the hell out of our A/C and the cooling - *ahem*, heat rejection (gotta keep the engineers happy) - that it provides. Just this past week, certain guests and goings-on have necessitated my spending quite a bit of time outside in the sweltering heat, and this drastic variance in climate really does have an effect on my ability to work well - just don't tell my supervisor!

    Anyway, such temperature deviations

  3. Tell Her About Them - Exhaust R&D, Part 3: Axleback Options

Tell Her About Them - Exhaust R&D, Part 3: Axleback Options

Our Mishimoto chefs have been very busy in our R&D kitchen, cooking up some wonderful 2016 Camaro exhaust prototypes with our 3D-modeling CAD software. Using nothing short of the finest ingredients, they have created a suite of 2016 Camaro SS exhaust options that are so delicious, Guy Fieri's mouth would surely be watering at the sight - though I'm sure he'd be even more tantalized if these were compatible with the first-gen Camaro!

    Jiro Dreams of Mishi

We have decided to release five different 2016 Camaro exhaust systems, and we think they should satisfy just about anyone with an SS and a hunger for some killer sound. As we determined the crimped section upstream of the axle-back does not have an impact on power output, but it does make the system sound more refined. We will be retaining that section

  4. Eliminating the Eyesore. Mishimoto 2016 Camaro Expansion Tank R&D, Part 2: 3D-Printed Prototype

Eliminating the Eyesore. Mishimoto 2016 Camaro Expansion Tank R&D, Part 2: 3D-Printed Prototype

Design work and refinement continue with our 2016 Camaro expansion tank. To verify fitment within the constraints of the engine bay, we've 3D printed a prototype in plastic to install on our test vehicle.

Check out a few shots of this prototype installed!

The image above shows the tank with a sight tube instead of a sight glass, which we used on our previous 3D models. We are experimenting with both designs to determine which is easier to read and which is going to provide the most durability. Let us know what you think!

  5. Cooling The Camaro. 2016+ SS Primary Radiator R&D, Part 1: Stock Radiator Evaluation

Cooling The Camaro. 2016+ SS Primary Radiator R&D, Part 1: Stock Radiator Evaluation

Mishimoto has been involved in the heat exchanger business for quite some time. Our team has produced many optimal aftermarket cooling solutions for vehicles new and old. We are finding now that OE heat exchangers have been improving substantially. This is occurring because vehicle curb weights have risen, and the horsepower war has continued to produce increasingly massive power output numbers.

Now, this isn't to say there isn't room for improvement. Stock cooling systems are typically adequate for a stock vehicle in street-driving conditions and in some instances, light track driving. Once owners begin adding sticky tires for longer-duration lapping, stock heat exchangers have trouble keeping fluid temperatures properly regulated.

Considering the weight and power output of the 2016 Camaro, we expect to see a need for improvement in both the primary and secondary radiator systems. This particular R&D project will cover the creation of our aluminum primary radiator for this vehicle.

Eliminating the Eyesore. Mishimoto 2016 Camaro Expansion Tank R&D, Part 1: Stock Tank and Initial Design

While we were deep in development of various new components for the 2016 Camaro, we received numerous requests for a replacement for the coolant expansion tank. While an upgrade here won't net any horsepower gains or drop fluid temperatures, a replacement tank can certainly improve the appearance of your engine bay.

Since we are experts in producing innovative aluminum replacement expansion tanks, we decided to tackle the Camaro unit as one of our new projects.

    Stock 2016 Camaro Expansion Tank

The stock 2016 Camaro expansion tank is quite a unique piece. GM has combined the expansion tank and overflow tank into one unit. If you've ever peeked under the hood of a Cadillac ATS, this unit should look familiar.

Before designing our own aluminum counterpart, we needed to inspect the stock 2016 Camaro parts and evaluate each of the features.

  9. Prototype Development - Camaro SS Intake, Part 2

Prototype Development - Camaro SS Intake, Part 2

Last time we left you with a detailed breakdown of the massive stock intake system of the 2016 Chevy Camaro. Designing a prototype that will keep this big V8 happy has been quite a task, but our awesome engineering team has come up with a unique design for a prototype. Let's start by taking a look at our components.

    Mass Airflow Sensor Housing

The stock mass airflow (MAF) sensor is sandwiched inside an air straightener. This straightener differs from others because it doesn't take up the entire length of the tube. Instead, it's pretty much only as long as the length of the sensor. Based on this, we decided to take that element of Chevy's design and incorporate it into our housing piece.
