  1. Float Like a Butterfly, Sting like a Kia? - Performance Intercooler Kit R&D, Part 3 - Intercooler Piping Design Plans

Float Like a Butterfly, Sting like a Kia? - Performance Intercooler Kit R&D, Part 3 - Intercooler Piping Design Plans

Like the Stinger's launch, we're also making our own sizable splash and causing some ripples with our intercooler kit. In case you haven't caught up on your Mishimoto Stinger news, our plan for keeping intake air temperatures down in the Stinger GT means a much larger, much more streamlined intercooler design. The intercooler might be playing a significant role, but it still needs the supporting cast.

Enter the new and improved Mishimoto intercooler piping kit. While it's still in the planning phase, these bits of 3D printed plastic are the physical manifestation of the models on our engineer's work station, and the ones we can use for testing the fitment. Let's dive into the specifics of each piece.

It's almost against the laws of nature to see a calm, serene pond and not want to throw rocks in it. I'm sure you get where I'm coming from. In this case, that pond is the proverbial state of the luxury sedan market, and here comes Kia with the biggest rock that it can find. That rock, the Stinger GT.

Where the Stinger made a big splash on its own, we want to make sure the ripples make their way around the pond. Basically, the Stinger rolled off the assembly line with some serious potential, but there's still room to grow, specifically when it comes to the intercooling system.

As we covered in our last post, the Stinger's stock

Family of Speed - Lifestyle: Global Time Attack takes NJMP

It seems like some sort of cruel joke that prime racing season takes place in the peak of the summer's heat. Heat is the inherent byproduct of the engine's power source, but too much of it can keep you sidelined for the day. Yet, dozens of teams descended on New Jersey Motorsports Park in Millville, NJ this past weekend to set their flying laps for Global Time Attack.

Blistering lap times is the name of the game for Global Time Attack. In the sweltering South Jersey August heat, it tends to be the coolant and oil that ends up blistering. Where Mishimoto is no stranger to keeping your modified daily driver or drift rocket from overheating, we took a day at the track to see how we helped these drivers across all the classes push the limits around NJMP's Lightning Circuit.

  4. Return of the Ranger - 2019 Ford Ranger: Introduction

Return of the Ranger - 2019 Ford Ranger: Introduction

For the past 8 years, the US has watched in envy as the rest of the world enjoyed one of Ford's most successful projects. The Ford Ranger has been absent from the US since 2011, despite enthusiasts calling for its return almost every year. But in 2017, Ford answered that call at the North American International Auto Show when they spoke the words every mid-size truck enthusiast had been waiting to hear, "The Ford Ranger will be returning to the North American mid-sized pickup market in 2019."

The Ranger wasn't always the poster child for American mid-size trucks. In fact, it didn't even start as a truck; it almost didn't make it to market at all. So, before we look at what the 2019 Ranger has to offer, let's look back at how the Ranger was born.

The Ranger nameplate started as a much

Cool Under Pressure - Performance Heat Exchanger R&D, Part 2 - Design Plans

When you put your foot down in the Q50, or any car for that matter, the force that shoves you back in the seat isn't just the work of one or two things, but rather the wonderous team effort of hundreds of moving parts. From the gears turning, the crank spinning the pistons, to the coolant gushing through the cooling and intercooling systems, this collaboration results in the harmonious sound of the VR warble and powerful forward thrust.

It's no secret that enthusiasts like us want to pile more on to that acceleration. Once we dug into our donor vehicle, we found that the stock heat exchanger can be the weak link in the chain pulling the Q50 forward, and leaves something more to be desired. After some preliminary R&D, we determined just what needs to be done with the heat exchanger to bring it all together.

  6. Dirty Work - Oil Catch Can Kit R&D, Part 1: Stock Review

Dirty Work - Oil Catch Can Kit R&D, Part 1: Stock Review

The most rewarding work is hard work. But hard work is often dirty work. If you're a car or truck enthusiast, you know the feeling of accomplishment you get from the hard work of fixing or modifying your vehicle. You also know the struggle of trying to scrub away the grime from under your fingernails afterwards.

Few people know the reward of hard work more than those who work on diesel trucks or those who use them every day to make a living. You'd be hard-pressed to find a construction site, landscaping job, or farm without a diesel truck somewhere nearby. If the owner of that truck is really serious about hard work, it's likely a Ford Powerstroke. Ford's latest addition to the Powerstroke lineage, the 6.7L, has been serving hard-working Americans since 2011. The 6.7L Powerstroke is one of the best engines ever fitted to Ford's Super Duty trucks, but it's not without its flaws.
