Team: a group of persons associated in work or activity, striving for a common goal. Yes, the auxiliary coolers on the 2020+ Toyota Supra aren't what you'd consider being "persons," but the sentiment remains. Keeping the B58 operating within temperature is a group effort, and all members, no matter how small, do their part. These auxiliary radiators play an essential role in the cooling process at each end of the spectrum, so it' only makes sense that they would also receive a similar overhaul to our primary radiator.

The Toyota Supra is essentially the definition of automotive athleticism. It's compact, agile, makes all of the right sounds, and the B58 is more than willing to give you a sharp shove back into the driver's seat at a moment's notice.  Though BMW/Toyota designed the Supra to be a top performer, even the most well-trained athletes can still succumb to the brutal heat. We here at Mishimoto already have the plans to keep the Supra running at peak performance.

If you remember back to our first post, and if you saw the sneak preview in our heat exchanger post, you might already know that it's a group effort when it comes to cool this B58. The front end of the Supra houses a squadron of different heat exchangers

PERFORMANCE INTAKE, FITS TOYOTA GR SUPRA 3.0L 2020+

The evolutionary process happens in stages. We humans didn't jump to the top of the intellectual food chain overnight. We had to traverse that process through plenty of less advanced stages of ourselves. Now, look at us. Ogling sports cars and figuring out the best ways to improve on them.

Our intake has evolved in stages as well, and we're now at what is essentially the final stage. No, we don't expect that our kit will become sentient and form a species of its own, but it has developed into a different kind of animal. We'll get to see just how well our new design performs on the vehicle in a later post, but for now, let's take a look at the kit's latest form.

Just about every major launch these days is complemented by some unforeseen bug in the system. It's just the way of the world, and manufacturers are quick to solve these small hiccups with a recall or a software update. Some bugs aren't easily remedied with a code revision or swapping for updated parts. For many vehicles, including your A90 Supra, blow-by will be an issue no matter the measures taken by Toyota and BMW to prevent it. When it comes to protecting your intake components, the solution requires a hardware upgrade, and we have that hardware.

Even with the help of some technical documents from BMW, determining which line to tap for our catch can requires some hands-on science.

PERFORMANCE HEAT EXCHANGER, FITS TOYOTA GR SUPRA 3.0L, 2020+

The tag-team between BMW and Toyota that resurrected the Supra was a good sign that this platform would be well prepared to take on any challenge that the road had to offer. That is, in stock form, at least. We all know that the Supra is a tuner's dream, so plenty will inevitably see some means of increased power by way of a tune, turbo, or a combination of the two, where the stock heat exchanger just won't cut it. Luckily, our engineer, Jason, has already been on the case and has a plan for keeping the intercooler's coolant temperatures in check.

We start with the core since it does the heavy lifting. When it comes to any variation of a heat exchanger, bigger is typically better.

Nothing shows progression in technology quite like integration. The means of creating one item that performs the function of four is the way of the future. Just take your mobile phone that you're likely reading this on. Fifteen years ago, it was just a phone designed for talking and texting, with some limited internet access, and now it's a computer in your pocket. Similarly, the intercooler inside of the B58's intake manifold is a pure form of integration in the name of performance. The marriage of these two components, though, means that the intercooler's heat exchanger is now the key to performance gains for the A90 Supra, and we here at Mishimoto are on the case.

PERFORMANCE INTAKE, FITS TOYOTA GR SUPRA 3.0L 2020+

Evolution is the gradual development of something from a simple to a more complex form over time. Much like the fish that first scraped their way from the primordial ooze to eventually develop into the complex creatures that we are today, the Supra also had humble beginnings. Starting as just a sportier trim level on the Celica, the Supra has grown to fit into its rightful spot in the automotive food chain. Even today, the Supra is still adapting to its environment and developing a better breathing apparatus.

Unlike those prehistoric fish, we have technology on our side to reduce the evolutionary process from a few million years to a few million seconds. Ye gets the design process started by extracting the stock

At the first official utterance of the Supra's resurgence there was an immediate clamoring from fans about the car's performance. While the headlines were dominated with power and handling figures, there were few considerations of the A90's endurance. Keeping a performance car cool is a serious undertaking and cutting a track day or spirited drive short due to overheating is less than ideal. That's why we here at Mishimoto have your back to ensure you can stay on the track longer, but before we reveal our planned improvements, let's dive into the Supra's stock system.

    Coolant Switchboard

The BMW and Toyota (mostly BMW) engineering tag-team meant business when it came to keeping the Supra's B58 cool. Not only did they incorporate a 4-phase system to make efficient use of the cooling system, but they also included 3 radiators to maximize the power of the coolant.

As the legendary namesakes in the automotive world live on, they are forced to evolve with the industry. That old saying "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" doesn't exactly sit well with the Toyota and BMW tag team, especially when it came to the Supra's resurrection. Yes, there is no arguing that the 2JZ-GTE was (and still is) a powerhouse of an engine, but the B58 more than fills the shoes left vacant for the last 18 years. While the car evolves, the formula stays the same. Strong, punchy turbo, straight-six in the front sending all the power to the rear wheels, and a mod-crazy driver in the middle.

More power is always on the enthusiast's mind, with the intake usually being first on the list. Intake

It's a strange time in the automotive world when it's an insult to call a Toyota a BMW. Yet, it seems that is one of the only small clouds hanging over the otherwise flawless return of the legendary Supra. I would say that's a win. Sure, it's Z4 in a cooler outfit, but I can't remember the last time BMW wasn't considered to be one of the benchmarks for automotive engineering. Why not shine a light on the real matter at hand, something that actually makes a difference? The only real speck on the otherwise gleaming Supra moniker is the issue of blow-by.

BMW was on the forefront of direct injection technology on its production vehicles like the N54 back in the early 2000s.
