  1. Everyday Hercules - Aluminum Radiator R&D, Part 1: Stock Review

Everyday Hercules - Aluminum Radiator R&D, Part 1: Stock Review

Like the Roman hero Hercules, the 2015+ F-150 is capable of other-worldly feats. From the street to the jobsite, and even the dunes or the track, there's little that the F-150 can't conquer. With three available engines producing over 350 lb. ft. of torque, the 2015+ F-150 could probably stop the rotation of the earth. Even with all that power, many of the F-150's on the road will never see Moab or drag a 1,000 lb. log up a mountain. But that doesn't mean your F-150 shouldn't be your everyday Hercules.

Owning an F-150 should mean being confident that you can tackle any task life throws your way, but that confidence may be shaken if your stock cooling system has seen better days. Hercules is nothing without his strength, and if your F-150 is overheating, all the power in the world means little. That's why we here at Mishimoto are developing an all-aluminum radiator to keep your 2015+ F-150 going strong.

Testing and Results - ND Miata Intake, Part 4

We finally have an update for the Miata intake project!

With our prototype now in working order, we were finally able to hook up our ND Miata to our dynamometer and get some pulls underway. At this point in the process, we knew we'd want to play around with some other design ideas while the car was hooked up to the Dynapack. AFRs, power output, and sound clips were all on the agenda for the evaluation of this prototype system.

2008-2014 Subaru WRX aluminum overflow tank pre-sale!

We last left you with some details of our initial design and a hint of an upcoming pre-sale for this overflow tank. Unfortunately, since that initial test fit we hit a few snags in the design process. Our goal with this product is to provide compatible fitment with all our other 2008+ WRX and STi components. This required numerous stages of test fitting, one of which revealed an issue. With our larger 3-row X-Line aluminum radiator installed, our sight tube on this expansion tank design ended up too close to the belt drive system on our Subaru.

We decided a revision was necessary. Although the two components were not physically touching, the clearances were just too tight for our comfort. Luckily, our team had an

Say No to Plastic - Coolant Expansion Tank, Post 2: Final Prototype

It has been a while since we took a look at what is going on in the world of the Fiesta expansion tank. In our last post we test fitted our 3D-printed prototype on the Fiesta ST. After fitment was confirmed, we played the waiting game for our final prototype's arrival at our development facility. Our best efforts at being patient paid off when we had two packages arrive this morning!

2008-2014 Subaru WRX aluminum overflow tank pre-sale!

If you haven't noticed, the folks here at Mishimoto are not fans of plastic use for cooling system components. A large number of our products provide a more durable material, aluminum, to replace the failure-prone plastic parts, and now we are focusing on another line of products, our aluminum coolant expansion tanks. We offer two different options for the WRX/STI and one for the new Mustang EcoBoost. This article is focused around our newest addition, an aluminum overflow tank for the 2008+ WRX and STI.

    Product Design

We won't be making any significant changes to the design of this tank compared to the stock unit, except for the construction material. Enlarging the tank's capacity will

Last year we released an aluminum expansion tank for the 2004-2014 STI and 2002-2007 WRX. We received a ton of awesome feedback from customers and enthusiasts regarding this component, as well as recommendations to produce such a tank for 2008-2014 WRX owners.

While we normally highlight our development process in multiple installments, for this Expansion Tank we wanted to give you everything in one quick shot.

Although we don't see quite as many failures with the 2008-2014 expansion tank, we can assume it will incur some wear over time. This tank sits relatively close to a very hot turbocharger/exhaust and handles coolant with temperatures

    Mishimoto In-Line Oil Thermostat

Mishimoto has been at the cutting edge of oil cooler technology for several years, and we continue to test and improve our product lineup. My personal favorite product line is our bundle of direct-fit oil cooler kits. These kits offer a completely bolt-on oil cooling system which includes mounting brackets, premade oil lines, an oil sandwich plate, large oil cooler, and application-specific mounting brackets. Along with this you receive the Mishimoto stamp of approval, acquired through rigorous testing and proven oil temperature drops. Now, you may be thinking that other companies are creating similar products. While true, most of these competitors are providing kits specific to one make or even one model vehicle. The Mishimoto product line is very broad, and includes various Subarus,

If you have not kept up with Mishimoto's new line of direct-fit oil coolers, you will be surprised to see that we are working on developing a kit for any vehicle we find that has a general need for reduced temperatures. A majority of our selections are enthusiast vehicles, which we know are being driven on the track and pushed hard on a regular basis. Oil temperature regulation will help reduce engine wear and is key to ensuring that your bearings are properly lubricated. I am sure you already know that! As oil heats up it begins to lose its viscosity, and at a certain point it becomes essentially useless for both temperature reduction and lubrication.

Stock Evolutions are having some issues with temperature, but we have seen even more problems with

And we are back! Enough drooling over our large core, cast tanks, and slick powder-coated finish. It was time to put these coolers to work. If you recall from the previous post, our fantastic engineer Steve is the proud owner of the super clean Evolution 9 you see below. Steve agreed to donate his vehicle for testing, which eliminated the process of tracking down a local Evo that would fit our requirements.
