We are back with a much-needed update on our 13+ Dodge Cummins intercooler. For most of our projects, we work with a donor vehicle to conduct fitment and performance testing. Unfortunately, this also means being patient when donor vehicles are not available for us to use. The good news is that we will not have to be patient for much longer, because testing is on our schedule! Once we complete testing in the coming weeks, we will be sure to share the results with you. In the meantime we can take a quick look at our finalized prototypes for testing!

In our last post about the Cummins intercooler, we created a foam prototype with 3D-printed end tanks and cut a shroud on our waterjet. With our initial prototypes complete and fitment confirmed, we can move on to creating our final prototype for testing. That means handing the design over to our resident drafter and render wizard, Josh. He created some awesome renderings of what the final intercooler

Just the other week, we all went to sleep with an extra hour on our hands, and now we rise each morning only to find that the rest of the world has beaten us to the punch. Early-morning sun shines through blinds where only darkness fell at the same hour, merely a couple weeks ago. It's a bit of a shame that the day's light departs early in the evening, but there's something energizing and uplifting about waking up to sunlight.

Since Mishimoto's inception, we have grown to become more than just a radiator manufacturer; have expanded to offer many other performance parts for a variety of applications. For the Titan alone we already offer a several products, including an intercooler pipe and boot kit, exhaust, and coolant filtration kit. We have not, however, forgotten our roots. That being said, we have begun developing a radiator for our Nissan Titan XD.

What improvements will we make?

The stock radiator is sizeable compared to other stock units we have seen, but we still found some areas where we can improve on the factory design.

We plan to increase the core thickness and create a fully aluminum radiator, including the end tanks, for added durability. The factory radiator utilizes a detachable, plastic fill neck, which we will include with our radiator, but ours will be constructed out of aluminum to eliminate another potential failure point.

Well, our SS and our 2.0T have quite the sibling rivalry, and as a fellow older brother, I can empathize with how the SS must feel to be challenged by this little 2.0T. However, older siblings are also often blessed with an innate ability to do things far better than their younger siblings (my sisters don't read car blogs, so I've basically got free reign here). As such, I'm sure the SS has some confidence in its oil cooling ability, and rightly so. But how will the 2.0T stack up?

Younger siblings, ungrateful beneficiaries of free-ridership, often enjoy the ability to hop on the coattails of big bro and whisk themselves away into a world of PG-13 movies, unearned responsibilities, and other undeserved privileges. The 2.0T is no exception, as it's already been able to finagle itself this oil cooler. And guess what! The yellow GT is back in our R&D facility to show us a thing or two about testing trans coolers. Upon the GT's arrival, we wasted no time getting the pony car saddled with our testing rig.

We couldn't have asked for a better day for our Mustang transmission cooler testing. We began testing on a beautiful fall afternoon with an ambient temperature of 70°F and 40% humidity. However, this would be no easy day for this brightly-colored beast. With the GT fiercely perched on our Dynapacks, we began testing by applying a constant load to the Mustang. The car was run on the Dyno at 70 MPH in 6th gear, with the dyno producing 60% load, for a grueling 5 minutes in order to ensure the transmission cooler was heat-soaked. We then reduced the load to 36% for another 5 minutes to complete our test.

One of my favorite things about working for Mishimoto is the sheer breadth of our many different projects. We're working on much more than only Chevy parts! Our garage always contains some interesting combination of trucks, hot hatches, muscle cars, and more. When I was young, I had a serious tendency to become fixated on a specific item or experience. Starry-eyed and captivated, I'd stubbornly obsess over my desire-du-jour at the expense of appreciating what was going on in the moment - something that was lost on me at the time, but hardly seems unique now, among my generational peers (or even those decades my senior). It's a fault upon which I've improved vastly with age and "wisdom", but I regularly notice reflections of the same tendency beyond the scope of my own experience, even regarding one's attitude to something as simple as Chevy parts.

A Gaggle of Pipes,

Hello everyone! You may remember from our previous 2016 Camaro SS Exhaust post that we have decided to move forward with five different systems for this car. It is my pleasure to let you know that all our Camaro exhaust prototypes have been completed. We've been busy testing and re-testing for fitment, sound, durability, and performance - and fun, of course. Our on-road testing process usually begins a little something like this:

Rob, the project manager: "Hey Gardiner, I need you to take the SS home tonight to put some miles on the pro system."

You spend hours washing, waxing, and polishing. Not a single drop of water or speck of dirt is left on the paint's surface when you're done. The interior is the same story; the carpet, seats, and dash look better than on the day you picked up your new BMW from the dealer. You spend precious time and effort protecting your investment from the outside, but what about the places you can't see? I don't mean that spot under the seat where you have to break every bone in your hand to retrieve your phone. I mean the heart of the car: the engine. Using high-quality fuel is a start to keeping your engine healthy, but there are more threats that you may never see coming until they've already gotten the best of your engine.

In the last post, we looked at the N55's stock PCV system; we examined its advantages and disadvantages, and how blow-by can harm your engine. We also took a quick look at how we started developing our catch can. This time, we'll be taking a look at the prototype

We are back with a much needed update on the Titan XD exhaust. Since our last post covering the stock Titan XD exhaust, we've come up with a design of our own.

The first step in bringing our prototype from design to reality was to create a jig to use for fabrication. We started by taking measurements from the Titan, then fired up the waterjet, and sliced our largest jig to date. It had to be sizeable enough to accommodate the four-inch piping designated for the Titan.

Now that the jig was complete, we could get to fabrication. Creating a jig on the waterjet usually results in a spot-on prototype in a relatively short time. This was the same case here and, when our prototype was complete and on the truck, it fit like a dream.
