    The Mustang GT Intake R&D, Part 2: Prototype Design

    We have some updates for our 2015 Mustang GT intake project! Our engineering team has been diligently working on a functional prototype so we can start getting some testing results. It's full steam ahead with our plan for this intake, which includes a cool design for a fully enclosed airbox, keeping the stock tune, and of course, gaining more power! Let's briefly examine what we have so far starting with the airbox, shown below.

    She's My Turbo Lover - Mishimoto's New 2016 Camaro 2.0T Engineering Vehicle

    One of the best parts about a small, dynamic company like Mishimoto is that there is never a dull moment around our R&D facility. Change happens frequently, and no two days are the same. At any given time, we've got a solid fleet of engineering vehicles at our disposal that serve as development platforms for our exciting new products, and over time, we become intimately acquainted with each vehicle's characteristics and quirks; each develops a personality and earns its own place on the Mishimoto team. This makes it tough to see them go, but it is always exciting to welcome on a new team member.

    This week, it was time for our 2015 Ford Mustang EcoBoost to move on to bigger and better things. We had the car around for a decent amount of time and grew quite fond of it, but our engineers could never quite relax in its presence, particularly when they were gathered in large crowds for meetings.

    As any traveler can tell you, it is an unparalleled experience to be an American abroad and take in so many of the mesmerizingly different facets of the world.     In our last post, we wrapped up the fabrication of our X- and H-pipes. Now that we have some excellent looking prototypes, it is time to put them to the test. We are not expecting much in the way of power with this modification; however we still want to give these resonator deletes the rundown for sound benefit.

    In addition to testing for any power increase we may see with our resonator delete, we will be testing our three different X-pipe designs to determine which one we will proceed with.

    With our first prototype intercooler and shroud assembly complete, it was time to test fit and make necessary changes or adjustments.

    The front shroud fits nice and snug against the front bumper and grille. The core is definitely in an ideal position for optimal airflow.

    Our Titan XD has been poked and prodded, and the next upgrade we are working on is a DPF-back exhaust.     Upgrading Induction - Induction Hose R&D, Part 1: Design Elements

    Improving airflow is now a recurring theme for the stock 2015+ Mustang GT intake. In addition to finding air flow restrictions in our project to replace the entire stock intake system, we've also found several ways that a silicone induction hose for S550 drivers could improve airflow for drivers who would rather not replace their stock intakes. The stock piece is not only restrictive in size, but it also makes use of a resonator. We can make several improvements to take this induction hose design to the next level.
