Mishimoto 2016+ Camaro SS Catch Can

Our Camaro catch can project continues! If you follow our development posts on the forums, please be sure to cast additional votes for our bracket design and silicone hose color. We are interested in obtaining as much feedback/opinion as possible so we can bring to market exactly the kit you want to see. So far, we've inspected the stock systems, selected a catch can location, and designed our initial bracket prototype. The final developmental phase includes constructing our direct-fit lines that will run from the PCV to the catch can, and from the catch can to the intake manifold.

Before showing our progress with that, I'd like to cover some of the neat aspects of our catch can.

    Bracket Location and Fabrication

The starting point for this Camaro oil catch can project is to determine the location of the catch can. Our can will be mounted by a direct-fit bracket specifically designed for the Camaro.

Our goal is to create a kit that is stock-like in appearance and allows for easy draining and servicing.

After considering a variety of locations for the can, we decided that the driver-side strut tower would be ideal.

The 2016 Camaro is an impressive feat of modern technology. A 6.2L power plant pushes massive power through a true manual transmission while producing some incredible exhaust tones. GM has really captured the interests of enthusiasts with this new model, and the cues to vintage models are apparent throughout. The 2016 model receives the new LT1 engine, which is a direct-injection V8. In addition, the 2016 has shed a few hundred pounds over the previous model, which was often criticized for its pudginess. We've been filming various video reviews for our 2016 development vehicle, so be sure to check out our thoughts and let us know what you would like to see reviewed next!

Now, on to the project at hand! Our first targeted

  7. 2016 Camaro SS Baseline Dyno Data!

2016 Camaro SS Baseline Dyno Data!

Our Camaro arrived late on Friday last week. As soon as it rolled off the truck, a swarm of employees surrounded the car, taking turns sitting in the seats, inspecting under the hood, snapping pictures, and wiping slobber from their chins. Alright, maybe not that last one. New development vehicles arrive here pretty frequently, but this one definitely attracted some attention. Being late in the day, we were left with the weekend to ponder and daydream about our turn at taking it for a spin. Before we left for the weekend, our team picked straws to see who would have the privilege of driving it first. One lucky team member took the car home for some break-in driving and splashed some water on the paint to clean it up from a long journey to our facility.

This morning, we slapped on our official "Development" banner and started working out our schedule for development as well as plans for coverage on reviewing this brand new model. Check out a Full gallery of images from the front, back,

  8. Dyno Testing and Results - WRX Race Intake, Part 2

Dyno Testing and Results - WRX Race Intake, Part 2

It has been a while since we have updated this project, but we now have something for our WRX community!

The brief data report below shows our gains with this race intake project and our baseline was a fully stock 2015 WRX with no upgrade or aftermarket tune. The numbers are quite high due to the upgrades already installed on the WRX during testing. These upgrades included our Mishimoto:

    • Downpipe
    • Cat-Back Exhaust
    • Front-Mount Intercooler
    • Custom Engine tune

  9. Dyno Testing Results - MK7 GTI Induction, Part 3

Dyno Testing Results - MK7 GTI Induction, Part 3

The time has come to test our prototype design for the MK7 intake. After weeks of designing and fabrication, the prototype for this VW is now ready to hit our Dynapack dynamometer so we can collect some data.

Testing these prototype MK7 GTI parts for overall power output gains over stock is important, so that's the first thing we needed to figure out. The larger diameter piping compared to the stock system provides increased airflow that will have a direct impact on improving power output. This car did happen to come with an aftermarket stage 1 tune on it, so we tested our intake with that software upgrade.

Mishimoto Mazda Miata Oil Cooler Kit!

The most exciting part of product design happens during the final stages. Product testing reveals any flaws in the design and also provides insight into possible adjustments for enhanced performance. In addition, testing validates our existing design and makes all our efforts well worth the time spent. So far, our team is having a great time developing new ND Miata parts.

Our ND Miata oil cooler kit will be no different. Since the stock vehicle with SkyActiv technology does not include a factory oil cooler system, we expect to see some pretty big decreases in fluid temperatures. On to testing the Miata oil cooler!

    Testing Conditions and Instruments

As we noted in the conclusion of our last segment,
